José Albano Ferreira da Mota (born February 25, 1964 in Paredes) is a former Portuguese footballer and a current manager, in charge of Leixões S.C. in the Portuguese first division.

Football career

After humble beginnings with lowly Aliados do Lordelo, Mota went on to spend nearly a decade at F.C. Paços de Ferreira, where he played as a right defender, often leading the club as its captain. After retiring, he immediately joined the side's coaching staff, being promoted to main coach in 1999. In 2004, he had a short stint with Azores team C.D. Santa Clara but returned to Paços shortly after.

In 2006–07, Mota led Paços de Ferreira to the UEFA Cup for the first time, where they lost in the first round 1–0 on aggregate, to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

In July 2008, Mota left Paços and joined fellow league side Leixões SC.
