Joshi is a family name common in most of India and in many parts of Nepal. The word Joshi is derived from "Jyotishi" meaning the practitioner of Jyotish (Astrology) i.e. Astrologer.

The surname Joshi is an indicator that the person is a Newar, Hindu or Brahmin.
