History

In 1962, Fresno's Channel 21 was home to an English-language independent station, KDAS-TV. The station survived for two years before leaving the air in 1964. In 1965, Channel 21 briefly returned to the air as the short lived English language independent KSJV-TV. After KSJV ceased broadcasting, Channel 21 would not return to the air until 1972, after Univisión acquired a construction permit and began broadcasting as KFTV.

Sharing studios in Fresno, California with sister-station KTFF, KFTV serves California's central valley with its full-power signal, and several low-power translator stations.

KFTV Noticias 21 has won two Edward R. Murrow Award from RTNDA for best newscast in 2001 and 2007 and in May 2009 KFTV Noticias 21 won an EMMY for Best Newscast
