KNVN-TV is the NBC television station for Chico, California and outlying areas including Redding, California. The station is owned by Evans Broadcasting, and operated by Catamount Broadcasting, the owners of KHSL-TV. It shares its studios, office and newscasts with KHSL-TV.

Before the merger with KHSL, the then 13-year-old KCPM was bound by crushing debt and nearly forced off the air. It maintained a news department aimed at younger viewers, but it failed to compete with the fiercely competing news departments at KRCR and KHSL. Since the merger, KNVN's meager quality improved while KHSL's long-time reputation suffered. However, it was the most successful attempt at a third network in Chico and Redding.

News Operation

KHSL and KNVN currently share a single news operation; for information, see KHSL-TV#Action News.

Prior to 1998, KNVN had its own newscast, but following Grapevine Communications' sale of the station in 1998 due to severe debt problems, the nearly bankrupt station signed a shared services agreement with KHSL, eventually leading to the creative yet controversial consolidation of the news departments. The news departments of both stations formally merged into a single news department in February 2000, due to the low ratings of KNVN's own newscasts.
