Kaavo provides solutions for deploying and managing on-demand applications and workloads in the cloud [1]. Kaavo was founded in November 2007 in the US. Kaavo is the first company to deliver a management solution for cloud computing based on application centric approach[2] [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10].

Kaavo claims that the bottom up approach of traditional data center management tools makes it harder to manage the infrastructure especially when dealing with the scale and distributed nature of the cloud. Kaavo takes a top down application centric approach for deploying and managing applications in the cloud.[11][12][13][14][15]

Application centric management approach for cloud computing means managing the services, software, infrastructure, middle-ware, network, and storage required for running the applications/workloads in the cloud from the application owner’s perspective. So instead of managing the resources individually, the idea is to manage all the required resources as a unified system for a given application. The bottom up approach is about managing servers, storage, and network resources individually. In contrast in application centric approach, system definition for a given system captures all the information for deploying and managing run-time services levels for all the resources required by a given application.

Kaavo's IMOD product[16], is based on Kaavo's top down application centric management philosophy[17] [18] [19] [20].
