Kandahar is a 2010 Malayalam film (Also dubbed into Tamil and Hindi) directed by Major Ravi. It will star Mohanlal, Amitabh Bachan, Surya Sivakumar and others. It will be the Malayalam debut of Amitabh Bachan and Surya Sivakumar. Music will be composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
The film will be the most expensive movie yet made in Malayalam cinema, with a budget of Rs. 42 Crores.
The movie will be based on the hijacking incident of Air India's IC-814 flight. Indian Airlines Flight 814 was a flight that flew from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. It was hijacked on Christmas Eve, Friday, 24 December 1999, shortly after the aircraft entered Indian airspace at about 5:30pm IST by five Pakistani nationals. The hijacked plane landed in Afghanistan, where the hijackers agreed to release their hostages in exchange for the release of 3 extremists.
On 31 December 1999, the hostages were freed in exchange for three extremists. During their 173 hours of captivity, the passengers and the crew experienced many uncomfortable emotions.
