The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, or KBI is the criminal investigative arm of the state of Kansas. The agency was established in 1939 by the Kansas Legislature, and is a division of the state's Attorney General[1]. Among the KBI's responsibilities are providing investigative and criminal laboratory services to criminal justice agencies, as well as investigating and preventing crime in the state of Kansas[2]. Robert Blecha is the current director of the KBI[3].

The KBI has 85 special agents and 150 civilian employees[4].

The KBI was the primary agency involved in the murder investigation chronicled in Truman Capote's In Cold Blood.
