Kavajë or Kavaja is a city in western Albania, the centre of the District of Kavajë. It was established in 1595 under the name of Kavalje which later on became Kavajë. It was the first city in Albania to start an anti-Communist revolution during the rule of Enver Hoxha. The city lies eight meters above sea level and has a coastline of approximately 37 km with Golem being it's main beach. The population in 2005 was roughly 40,000.

In the District of Kavajë, there are about 123,000 inhabitants (according to the 2005 census). The area of the County is 393 square kilometers. Kavajë is also the Capital of Kavaja County.
