Kenneth Dunkin is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 5th District since 2002.

Dunkin was born May 2, 1974 and raised in the Cabrini Green Housing Development of Chicago. He attended Lincoln Park High School and went on to earn his associate’s degree from Harold Washington College. Dunkin continued his education at Morehouse College where he earned his bachelors degree in Political Science and later his masters degree in social welfare from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
As a youth, Dunkin was influenced by Jesse White, Illinois politician and founder of the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Dunkin currently serves the communities that his mentor, Jesse White, had once represented.
Dunkin worked as social worker for many years. Most recently, he was the Director of the Robert Taylor Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, where he managed over $2.5 million in program services. He also worked as a consultant for the City of Chicago Department of Health and Department on Aging. He interned with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Care Financing Administration, and United States Senator Paul Simon.
Dunkin is currently a member of the Attorney Registration Disciplinary Commission (appointed by Illinois Supreme Court), Board of the Chicago International Film Festival, Lawson YMCA, Near North Health Services Corp, Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. and the Governor’s Film Task Force.
As a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, Dunkin serves on seven committees: International Trade & Commerce, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Mass Transit, Telecommunications, and Chairman of Tourism and Conventions. Dunkin is also a member of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus. On January 9, 2009, Dunkin was the sole House member officially excused from vote on HR1671 concerning the impeachment of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.[1]
He sponsored HB 0687, which would require Illinois gun owners to purchase $1,000,000 liability insurance, by comparison minimum vehicle insurance is $40,000. The bill is on its second reading in the Illinois General Assembly and is being debated.
