Clark began playing the drums at age three. He was a member of Highland Park High School's concert and jazz bands, and formerly the drummer for the Chicago-based rock band Third Estate, which disbanded in 2004.[1] In regards to drumming, Clark has stated,
| “ | I've been drumming for about five years now, well when I was about two or something. I've actually been drumming my whole life because my mom went to a garage sale and she found this old broken drum kit and she said 'This'll be fun to give to a kid, it'll let him get some energy out.' So, she brought it home and I would always be banging on it and hitting it and stuff.[1] | ” |
Clark was introduced to acting at the age of thirteen, cast as drummer Freddy Jones, in Paramount Pictures' School of Rock alongside Jack Black. Already an experienced drummer, Clark recalls seeing a casting call for drummers ages 9-11, however he didn't want to audition because he was 13, but his mother later convinced him. After numerous auditions in cities including Chicago and New York, Clark landed the role of Freddy Jones. Upon the films' release, he attended Toronto and Los Angeles film premieres, as well as the 2004 MTV Movie Awards. He also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 26, 2003 as a musical guest with Jack Black.
In regards to his acting career, Clark stated that his next big project was to "finish high school." He graduated from Highland Park High School in 2007 and currently resides in his hometown of Highland Park, Illinois. He has recently appeared as a guest drummer for up-and-coming rock/alternative artist and Highland Park native Robbie Gold,[2] and is a member of The Robbie Gold Band
