Biography

Born in Cameroon, the bilingual West African grew up showing strong interests in music, art, entertainment and everything in-between.

As he went through boarding school stage dancing at college discos and social events, Ateh honed his self-taught choreographies that were greatly influenced by the likes of Ginuwine, Usher and Michael Jackson among others. His passion made him popular as he went from college to college hosting and performing - arguably the finest attributes that have moulded the entertainer he is today.

Kilian began writing and rapping while sitting at his boom box for hours rewinding and reciting line after line of 2Pac’s "Brenda's Got A Baby", a Nas record or yet another Jay-Z anthem. Mix and bootleg tapes only enhanced his fierce addiction, but he soon grew out of mimicking popular songs and moved towards a more authentic and heartfelt approach to writing and making music. Kilian’s eloquent verses, diction, brash style and daredevil approach towards music and the industry sparks a Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and Drake comparison.[2]

2007

Kilian released his first Mixtape in 2007 titled White Collar Hustle. This 28 track tape was largely comprised of Kilian rapping over beats made popular by other artists. However it also featured a few original songs. "AO' being the standout track. A video for the song "Off the Wall" was released to promote the mixtape. The video was never released due to creative differences but later made its way onto YouTube[3].

2008

2008 saw the release of the Freestyle Friday Mixtape which, although inspired by the famous BET TV Show, [4], did not involve any MC Battles. This was the culmination of a premise started by Kilian, whereby he would record and release a new song every Friday via his website. The mixtape was well received and achieved over 3000 independent downloads[5].

2009

On October 19, 2009, Kilian released his first single, "It's On", which contained production by his inhouse producer Marc Styles, as well as a Dance remix of the same track, produced by Ian "The ChartStalker". A music video was created for the song "Hello" which appears as a bonus track on the single release. It can be seen on the artist's official Youtube page.[6] The single garnered mixed reviews[7] but has been mostly well received by critics.[8][9][10]

Biography

“...African born, American influenced, UK inclined...” is probably the most accurate quote that best describes this London based MC.

With a childhood dominated by urban tv mix and bootleg tapes, the Cameroonian grew up with a fierce addiction to music and everything related, copying and eventually learning to write, make and perform records.

Currently with songs like Hello to brag about and an ep readily available online, the West African has since been steady on the pedal and can't seem to get off the road. Live at every "underground" scene and gigging with the band all over London town. Recently playing iLuvLive at Camden's Proud hosted by BBC 1Xtra's Ras Kwame courtesy of Urban Development, YoYo at the Notting Hill Arts Club, Wandsworth Palais, Arch 635, Brixton's Mass... to cite a few. His performances have been noted to resemble bands like The Roots. His eloquence, diction, brash style and daredevil approach towards the industry have sparked Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Drake and Common comparisons.

With French being his second language, the two tongued MC also runs a blog where he hosts The Freestyle Friday Sessions and promotes his work usually as a free download. This is also the go-to place for info, updates and more.
