Biography

Kim Sun Ah, the queen of comedy, has a new movie out and is currently one of the Korea cinema’s top actresses. She debuted in the television series "Forever Yours" from 1998, she has appeared in many series, but it was her career-defining title role in the 2005 "My Name is Kim Sam Soon" that made her an international household name. The actress is said to have gained 15 pounds for the role of an ungainly single woman in her twenties searching for romance, a bittersweet characterization that many viewers empathized with. Kim debuted onto the silver screen in the 2002 action movie "Yesterday" followed by "She's on Duty" where Kim Sun Ah’s character, Chon Jae In, is a detective who goes undercover as a high school student. It’s a departure from her usual roles. But her trademark comedy is still there. Although the movie is filled with what she does best, she says she was still nervous. Kim’s action in this movie was a focal point. Although it's not easy for a female actress to learn all these moves and work without a stunt double, Kim Sun Ah pulled off the moves with finesse. Needless to say she put an incredible amount of sweat and hard work into it.

Kim’s cold image stuck her with a very haughty, cosmopolitan image - Until the movie "Wet Dreams". Kim Sun Ah made a complete transformation and gave off a very amiable and friendly air. But still, audiences weren't quick to warm to her. She staked her claim as a comical actress in the movie "The Greatest Expectation" where she improved her acting skills on set and even challenged those of seniority in comedy, Lim Chang Jung. But Kim Sun Ah doesn't want to be pegged simply as a "silly" actress.

In addition, Kim's notable roles in the 2003 romantic comedy "Happy Ero Christmas" (a popular combination with male counterpart Cha Tae Hyun), the lead role in 2004's "S Diary" and in the wake of her Kim Sam Soon success, the 2008 action comedy "Girl Scout". Although her 2008 drama "When It's At Night" took a slope, 2009 drama "The City Hall"[2] where she plays a beauty pageant contestant, Sin Mi Rae, had hit the 14.6% viewing rate by the second episode.[3]
