Kōhei Uchimura (Japanese: 内村航平; born January 3, 1989 in Nagasaki) is a Japanese artistic gymnast. He began gymnastics at age 3, at home in Nagasaki Prefecture at his parents' sports club. He trained with Athens gold medalist Naoya Tsukahara. His sister Haruhi Uchimura is also a gymnast. She is ranked 14th in Japan.
Uchimura won the silver medal in Men's All-Around Gymnastics at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing China.
He earned his first national title on November 1st, 2008. The 19-year-old Uchimura racked up the highest scores in the floor exercises and pommel horse, the first two disciplines, and went on to become the first teenager in 12 years to win the men’s national all-around title with 91.900 points.
On October 15th 2009, Kohei became the 2009 Individual all around champion at the 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships by marking top scores for floor, rings, vault, and horizontal bar. [1]
