History and monuments

Kruševac in 1933.

Kruševac was founded in 1371.[3] It was in Kruševac that the Serbian noble, Prince Lazar, assembled a Serb army to march against the Turks, at the Battle of Kosovo, in 1389. The site of his palace is marked by a ruined enclosure containing a fragment of the tower of Queen Milica, whither, according to legend, tidings of the defeat were brought to her by crows from the battlefield. Within the enclosure stands a church, dating from the same time. Several old Turkish houses were left at the beginning of the 20th century, besides an old Turkish fountain and bath, which was known as Alacahisar during Ottoman rule.

There is also a large monument dedicated to the Battle of Kosovo (Бој на Косову, Boj na Kosovu). As a part of the monument there is a statue of the famous Serbian poet and gusle player Filip Višnjić.
