Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo (lit. If We Were To Be Apart) is a currently airing Philippine primetime drama series broadcast on ABS-CBN. This drama is one of ABS-CBN's special offerings for the 60th Year of Philippine Soap Opera.

After such a long time, Kris Aquino, dubbed as the Queen of Gameshows came back to primetime after her last series, the successful television adaptation of Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara. Leading the cast, Aquino will play Celine, a woman who have trusted too much into love that almost ruined her whole life. Joining the undisputed icon is the hit tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. The teen couple are yet again to prove something to the audience right after the unforgettable and successful teleserye, Tayong Dalawa. The two will play a star-crossed lovers who fell in love with each other although both their families have hidden grudge to the opposite foes. Also from Tayong Dalawa is Coco Martin and Gina Pareno, whose tandem on the series have gained popularity for portraying Ramon and Lola Gets.
Veteran actors, Gabby Concepcion and Albert Martinez are also in the cast. This is Concepcion's next project right after the hit series, Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Martinez is still on the religious series, May Bukas Pa when the production of the Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo was started, his character in May Bukas Pa was killed off a during the first week of Kung Tayo's Magkakalayo was aired.Although have left the show, Martinez has been very known to play as Mayor Enrique on the religious show. Concepcion and Martinez will play as rivals against Celine. Maricar Reyes and Jacklyn Jose are also on the cast where they play the other women of Concepcion and Martinez. Jose is back again in primetime right after her last series, Nagsimula sa Puso, where she also played a villainous role.
On July 2009, in an interview in the Philippine talk show, The Buzz, Kris Aquino revealed that she will be starring a primetime drama series together with Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. The series was suppose to be Robin Padilla's come back show to ABS-CBN, but he then turned the offer down. Production started October 2009. The locations were in different parts of Luzon. According to Aquino, they shot scenes in Zambales, Marikina, and Manila. All the character's first names are adapted from international singers. On November 25, 2009, ABS-CBN released a teaser via their official YouTube account[1]. It revealed the complete cast and characters. Then, on December 27, 2009, ABS-CBN finally released its first full trailer during The Buzz[2], where it showed its release date which is January 18, 2010.
Celine is trapped in an unhappy marriage with Frank. One day Celine is shock to hear that Frank’s plane crashed. Grieving the loss of her husband, she finds comfort in her friendship with Steve, the assigned investigator over the disappearance of Frank. Celine also discovers that Frank had an affair with Astrud and they had a love child named Ringgo.
A few years after, Frank is found alive. Steve walks away from his relationship with Celine. But Celine is already pregnant, however, she tells Frank that he is the father of the daughter she named Gwen. From then on, Celine vows to be loyal to her family.
After 18 years, Celine is reunited with Steve. She learns that Steve is already married to Celina. Celine realizes that she still loves Steve, but she knows that they are no longer meant to be. To make things more complicated, Gwen, who has grown into a pretty young lady, will meet Robbie, the younger brother of Celina. Gwen and Robbie will start of as enemies, but later they will form a bond that will violate the laws of love. [3]
A rather unfortunate event brings Steve and Celine’s paths together. An airplane crash leads them towards the same place while searching for two different people--Celine for her husband Frank who was then flying the aircraft turned to rubbles; and Steve for a fugitive who was reported to be one of the same plane’s passengers. It is a truly devastating event for Celine; and to further add injury to her loss, she once and for all discovers from her husbands recovered belongings that he is in fact the father of Astrud’s son, Ringgo. With Frank’s body nowhere to be found, Celine is then left with no other choice but to assume that her husband is finally dead. Now that she’s a widow, she once and for all decides to move on with her life. Surprisingly, her goal is made easy by Steve’s sudden entry in her life; but unfortunately, their love affair is immediately cut short by Frank’s rather unexpected return.
To Frank’s delight, Celine gets pregnant; but surprisingly, the latter isn’t exactly as excited as he is. Apparently, she is pretty certain that the kid in her womb isn’t Frank’s--it is actually Steve’s. On the other hand, Steve somehow gets a kid of his own. Incidentally, he meets a poor orphan in Cebu named Robbie; and while waiting for the kid’s elder sister Celina to fly back home, he volunteers to temporarily adopt him. Surprisingly, aside from finding Robbie’s legal guardian upon Celina’s return, Steve also ends up finding himself a loving wife. Celine tries her best to be a good mother to Gwen; but to her dismay, her daughter only ends up hating her than ever. Apparently, Astrud’s plan to subtly win Gwen’s confidence is a raging success; surprisingly, the young lady even admits to her that she would rather have her as a mom over Celine. On the other hand, Robbie gets shot. Being an aspiring honorable policeman that he is, he tries stopping a deranged man from shooting an innocent driver, thus leading to his unfortunate predicament.
As the story goes on Celine is having problems being a mother too Gwen and being a teacher a mother and keeping secrets so her family wouldn't break apart meanwhile Gwen's rebellious side kicks in and as the mother daughter feud goes on anger erupts both mother and daughter because of Astrud's ways both think oppositely where Celine thinks Astrud is just making Gwen do all these things just to get her side and her fathers while Gwen thinks its only her mothers thinking that is wrecking everything no wonder to even her attention no one can get along. The past seems to catch up on Celine meanwhile as she heads to a convention Robbie and Steve get into the picture coming to Manila for same reasons and Steve working while Robbie is going to take his education in the police academy here in Manila meanwhile Frank persuades Gwen to say sorry to his mother but as she heads to the bathroom Robbie and Gwen meet and unexpectedly things don't go so well as the twos bitter enoounter makes things not so well especially now Celine and Celina meet and even Steve's return makes it irritable even for Celine to know that Steve is married to Celina and as paths cross Gwen keeps seeing Robbie wherever she goes even at parties and even when Celina decided to apply as a teacher at Celine's school as Celine and Celina become friends and as employee and boss both women feel same way unhappy marriages as for Celina she cannot give a child to Steve and as for Celine she feels as if the consent of Frank makes it hard to get her daughters attention because of her rebellious ways and because no one understands that all she wants is a perfect family after all she has gone through and now things go awry as Steve is doing a case basically Celine can't help but sell the school because she doesn't want the family to get to close after days and weeks later and because of Gwens behavior she decides to go to Australia which leads to Ringgo not coming which leads the family into more drama now that Ringgo and Gwen and Ringgo have met Celina's suspicion of another woman leads to more peril in Celines life as Frank and her start fighting meanwhile Gwen gets kidnapped but survives and Robbie and Steve save her and see a RX bracelet left in the scene which enters 3 unsuspected women who are trying to get back at Frank and Astrud who they owe too and are the biggest syndicates in the underworld meanwhile as Astrud sees Steve and Celines closeness a problem occurs and what leads them close is when Celine confronts Astrud and after her hit she comes back and Frank and Gwen become close after feeling what Celine felt hurt now As days go by Celines pregnancy and Robbie and Gwen go to the same school the bitter meetings never end and as for Celina after Steve is doing Gwens case he wants to step up as father to Gwen and for the last few weeks he gets closer and closer to danger and meanwhile Ringgo meets Christina and both get to know each other better until one day when Robbie and Ringgo and Gwen were going out to an outing Christina was told by Astrud to leave him alone but as they all left the driveway out of nowhere a team of men kidnap all 3 which leads to a heated up revealation to everyone as The RX have something to do with Frank's disappearances and Astrud's new business the two now work for the underworld and now Steve believes Frank maybe the one all around it Celine doesn't believe it but Franks mother Petulah does and as they are kidnapped all 3 can't believe that Frank maybe all around it meanwhile as weeks go by after kidnapping the Crisanto's and Sebastians are all distraught even Ringgo and Astrud but as the RX gang come in after the survival of the 3 running away from the cruel syndicates Ringgo looks for answers after remembering Astrud had a bracelet with an RX while Robbie and Gwen's love cannot be handled by Celine Celina nor Frank as Steve is still on the case Christina and Ringgo's hearts come together but Frank leaves again but his disappearance and Steve getting close to information about the RX gang Astrud decides to locate where Frank is but the RX team leader Aludra does not want to give information Astrud witnesses and incident between Steve and the man who was Steve's hope for justice Astrud is now in bigger trouble as the police are thinking she is the one who shot Steve meanwhile Ringgo must lie but the only truth he can tell is about the RX gang meanwhile Robbie and Gwen's hearts aspire each other Celine breaks everything apart as one day they get a package from Frank saying his last words for leaving the RX gang to live in Australia with the family so no more harm can be done but the story still continues with twists but how will their futures go even the love between Robbie and Gwen and even Ringgo and Christina and Celines new life as her new child to Frank makes the family closer what things will begin to come their way ?
For the third time, Gary Valenciano sings the theme song for a series which involves the tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, others include Tayong Dalawa and Sana Maulit Muli. The title of the series was derived from the song, Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo, which was originally sung by Rey Valera and was revived by Gary Valenciano for the show. Other songs are Lapit by Yeng Constantino and Pagka't Mahal Kita by Bugoy Drilon
Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo was launched as one of the ABS-CBN offering for the 60th celebration of Filipino Soap Opera (Ika-60 taon ng Pinoy Soap Opera). Together with upcoming series such as Rubi, Tanging Yaman, Habang May Buhay, Kokey @ Ako, Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal?, Agua Bendita and a series of Precious Hearts Romances Presents seasonal episodes. The shows were launched during the ABS-CBN Trade Launch for the first quarter of 2010, entitled Bagong Simula (New Beginning).[8]
