Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan is the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) of the Republic of Ghana. He was appointed Chairman by the then PNDC, which was ruling as a military junta, with the hope of returning the country to civilian rule. His job was to ensure that free and fair elections were conducted in December, 1992. The Chairman of the PNDC who was also Head of State - Jerry John Rawlings - stood and won the elections.
So far, Dr. Afari Gyan has successfully chaired the conduct of presidential and parliamentary election in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.
