From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iceland, a small island nation of the North Atlantic with only 300,000 residents, is linguistically very homogeneous: virtually everyone is a native speaker of Icelandic, which is the only official language. The Icelanders take pride in their language and in preserving its purity. However, many people also have a good knowledge of English and Danish and utilize much written material in these languages.
