Edwin James Lawrence[1] (born 26 May 1943), most commonly known as Lawrence James, is an English academic, notable for his works as a writer and historian.[1] He has written several works of popular history about the British Empire. He has written for the Daily Mail, the Times and the Literary Review.[2]

James graduated with a BA in English & History from the University of York in 1966.[3]
