Lazar BVT-SR-8808 is a mine resistant, ambush-protected, armoured vehicle, manufactured by Yugoimport SDPR. The full name of the vehicle comes from the Serbian Prince Lazar, "BVT" is Serbian for "Wheeled Combat Vehicle", "SR" from Serbia, "88" from its 8x8 drive, and "08" from the year of design (2008). The vehicle was designed to have high mobility, protection, and armament, while being able to transport 10 soldiers.

Its development and presentation in 2008 came as a surprise to many, as nothing had been made public about it in beforehand. It was developed as a response to a Serbian Army requirement for new armoured personnel vehicles. Other competitors for this contract was BTR-90, Piranha, and the Patria AMV.

Protection

The MRAP has an high level of armour protection which was achieved by adopting a steel armour hull which includes ballistic glass panels and provides protection against heavy gunfire and attacks from RPG-7's. The armour in the Lazar BVT-SR-8808-MRAP is a Reactive explosive armour provides effective protection against infantry based launchers such as RPG series.
