History

León de Huánuco was founded June 29, 1946 by a group of people and fans to the football under the direction Luis Alberto Marroquín Andía in the installations of the Colegio Nacional Leoncio Prado (before Colegio de Minería), with the only objective to promote the practice of the sport between the students and teachers of the mentioned school. But with the passage of time became the team pride and patrimony of the city.

They have played 21 seasons in the Peruvian First Division. In the 1994 season, they reached the third place, which is their highest ranking in their whole history. One year later, due to a internal crisis, they finished the season in the last position and were relegated to the Peru Cup. During those years, León de Huánuco tried to reach the first division again without luck.

In the Peru Cup 2009, León de Huánuco won the Huánuco's Superior League and the whole Cup, after beating Tecnológico Campo Verde in the finals. This match qualified the team to the 2010 First Division, after 15 years.

The club occupies the position 14 in the board accumulated of championships of First Division.
