The post of Premier in the Cayman Islands is the equivalent to Chief Minister in most British colonies. It is the highest political level that can be attained within the colonial system. The holder of that position is regarded as the head of government. The position was previously known as Leader of Government Business.

For a number of years the office had no official recognition, but the British government formalised it in July 2003, along with that of Leader of the Opposition. Following constitutional changes on 6 November 2009 name of the position to Premier.
