Legend of the Guardians is an upcoming computer-animated film based on the series of children's fantasy books Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky. Zack Snyder is directing the film, and Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Rachael Taylor, David Wenham, and Emilie de Ravin voice the characters. Production is taking place in Australia at Animal Logic, and the film is scheduled to be released on September 24, 2010.[1] It will be released in part in 3D and IMAX 3D.
Premise
Legend of the Guardians is based on the first three installments of the book series: The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue.[2]
Voice cast
The voice cast includes Sam Neill, Hugo Weaving, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten,[3] Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Rachel Taylor, Helen Mirren, Abbie Cornish, Jay Laga'aia, David Wenham, Emily Barclay, Miriam Margolyes, David Field, and Richard Roxburgh.[4][5]
Production
Warner Bros. acquired film rights to the book series Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky in June 2005. The studio planned to produce the series as a computer-generated animated film under producer Donald De Line and Lionel Wigram.[6] A screenplay was written by John Orloff,[7] and in April 2008, the project moved to Village Roadshow with Zack Snyder directing and Zareh Nalbandian producing. Production began in Australia in February 2009.[4] The film is being produced by the digital visual effects company Animal Logic, following its success with the 2006 film Happy Feet.[8]
