Viva Leroy Nash (born September 10, 1915) is the oldest American on death row. He was sentenced to death in June 1983 for a murder he committed in Arizona in 1982, after having escaped from prison in Utah, where he was serving a life sentence for a murder he committed in 1977. He was born in Salt Lake City.
His attorneys claim that senility has rendered him not legally competent to be executed, describing him as a "doddering old man, who can't hear, can't see, can't walk, and is very, very loony".[1]
