.Leviathan (pronounced /lɨˈvaɪ.əθən/; Hebrew: לִוְיָתָן, Modern Livyatan Tiberian Liwyāṯān ; "twisted, coiled"), is a sea monster referred to in the Tanakh and the Bible.^ Select passages culled from the Hebrew Bible, referring to Israel’s "right" to the land -- all of Palestine -- and an undivided Jewish Jerusalem were repeated again and again ad nauseam.

 In Demonology, Leviathan is one of the seven princes of Hell and its gatekeeper (see Hellmouth). .The word leviathan has become synonymous with any large sea monster or creature.^ Qui-Gon Jinn In the fictional Star Wars Universe, the sando aqua monster was a massive carnivorous sea creature that lived in the oceans of Naboo.

Scriptural references

Leviathan, Behemoth and Ziz
The word "Leviathan" appears in four places in the Bible, with the Book of Job, chapter 41 being dedicated to describing Leviathan in detail:

The word Leviathan is also mentioned in Rashi's commentary on Genesis 1:21: "God created the great sea monsters - Taninim." Jastrow translates the word "Taninim" as "sea monsters, crocodiles or large snakes". The festival of Sukkot (Festival of Booths) concludes with a prayer recited upon leaving the sukkah (booth): "May it be your will, Lord our God and God of our forefathers, that just as I have fulfilled and dwelled in this sukkah, so may I merit in the coming year to dwell in the sukkah of the skin of Leviathan.  Lotan is the Ugaritic orthograph for Hebrew Leviathan. Hadad defeats him. .Bibilical references also resemble the Babylonian creation epic Enûma Elish in which the storm god Marduk slays his grandmother, the sea monster and goddess of chaos and creation Tiamat and creates the earth and sky from the two halves of her corpse.^ God caused the Earth to swallow Corah, Dathan, and Abiram with their wives and children alive, and consumed those two hundred and fifty Princes with fire.

According to most ancient Jewish midrash, the Leviathan was created on the fifth day (Yalkut, Gen. 12). .Originally God produced a male and a female leviathan, but lest in multiplying the species should destroy the world, He slew the female, reserving her flesh for the banquet that will be given to the righteous on the advent of the Messiah (B. .LEVIATHAN, the Hebrew name (livyathan), occurring in the poetical books of the Bible, of a gigantic animal, apparently the sea or water equivalent of behemoth, the king of the animals of the dry land.^ It's an apparent contradiction that he reconciled as follows: "The Bible says that God gave the Jewish people this sacred land.

 In Job xli. 15 it would seem to represent the crocodile, in Isaiah xxvii. 1 it is a crooked and piercing serpent, the dragon of the sea; cf. Psalms civ. 26. The etymology of the word is uncertain, but it has been taken to be connected with a root meaning "to twist." Apart from its scriptural usage, the word is applied to any gigantic marine animal such as the whale, and hence, figuratively, of very large ships, and also of persons of outstanding strength, power, wealth or influence. .Hobbes adopted the name as the title of his principal work, applying it to "the multitude so united in one person ...^ THE difference of Commonwealths consisteth in the difference of the sovereign, or the person representative of all and every one of the multitude.

 In Job 3:8, Revised Version, and marg. of Authorized Version, it denotes the dragon which, according to Eastern tradition, is an enemy of light; in Job 41:1 the crocodile is meant; in Ps 10426 it "denotes any large animal that moves by writhing or wriggling the body, the whale, the monsters of the deep."
.This word is also used figuratively for a cruel enemy, as some think "the Egyptian host, crushed by the divine power, and cast on the shores of the Red Sea" (Ps 7414).^ There may be some who think 'evilness' is too strong a word to describe such ideology but in my opinion this is pure evil.
