This is a list of the top 300 Major League Baseball leaders in career saves. In the sport of baseball, a save is a statistic credited to a pitcher who finishes a game for the winning team under certain prescribed circumstances. The number of saves, or percentage of save opportunities successfully completed, is an oft-cited statistic of relief pitchers. It first became an official Major League Baseball statistic in 1969.

Trevor Hoffman holds the Major League Baseball save record with 591. Mariano Rivera is second with 526 saves. Lee Smith and John Franco are the only other pitchers that have recorded more than 400 saves.

List

Listed are all Major League Baseball players with 46 or more saves, the current cutoff for the top 300 (includes ties for the top 300, whenever applicable). Players in bold face are active as of the 2009 Major League Baseball season (including free agents and those on the disabled list), with the number in parentheses designating the number of saves they have earned during that season. Saves earned prior to 1969 are applied retroactively.

The stats are updated as of the end of the 2009 regular season.
