A film version of the manga, using the Noah's Ark story, was released to Japanese audiences by Studio 4°C. The movie was directed and storyboarded by Hirotsugu Kawasaki, written by Kawasaki and Yasutaka Itō, and supervised by Katsuhiro Otomo. Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa had a hand in assisting the director through production.
ADV Films released the film in all English-speaking countries on April 23, 2002 with a special edition released on February 15, 2005,[1][2] with the exception of Australia and New Zealand, where the film was distributed by Madman Entertainment.[3] A Japanese release of the OVA was on DVD on April 25, 1999.[4]
The film was distributed in Japan by Toho, in Hong Kong and other Asian countries under AVP Video in DVD and VCD. The film was released in Taiwan by Proware Multimedia International.[5] In Europe, it was produced in German by Anime Connection of Germany,[6] in Russian by MC Entertainment, in Dutch by Dybex, Italian by Dynit[7], in Polish by IDG[8] and in Swedish by Sandrew Metronome.
Spriggan has been recently released in Japan in Blu-Ray disc format on November 11, 2007[9] with another release on July 25, 2008.[10]
The ending theme song was "Jing Ling" by Säju
A soundtrack of the game, composed by Keiichiro Segawa, Tsukasa Saito, and Yuji Kanda, was also released by Absord Music Japan on November 26, 1999. [11]
On June 16, 1999, From Software released a Spriggan-related game for the Playstation named Spriggan: Lunar Verse in Japan and Asia.[12] The game is a spin-off of the Spriggan manga and not considered to be part of the official canon, though Hiroshi Takashige and Ryōji Minagawa supervised the team in creating the game in order to maintain the feeling of the Spriggan manga.[12] It can be played by either one or two players.[13]
The game was sold at a street price of ¥6,090 when it was released.[13]
