Texas Recreational Road shield

Texas Recreational Roads are roads created and maintained since 1970 by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) providing access to recognized recreational areas. Routes may include spurs linking to off-system roads as designated by the Texas Transportation Commission[1]. However, none currently include spur routes.

The state's oldest and longest Recreational Road is RE 255. The shortest is RE 6[2], and the newest is RE 11[3]. All routes are numbered chronologically according to when they were designated with the exception that there is no RE 1, and RE 255 bears the number of the former Farm to Market Road from which it was created, FM 255[4].
