YouTube celebrities are those persons or groups who have grown to prominence due to their appearance in YouTube videos. In addition to fans, some YouTube celebrities have corporate sponsors, who pay for product placement in their clips or production of online ads. Some have quit their day jobs or changed careers to accommodate their YouTube filming schedules.[citation needed] As YouTube is a cultural phenomenon of growing significance, the category of YouTube personalities also encompasses public intellectuals who analyze YouTube and become either the subject or producer of prominent YouTube videos.

In addition to fans, some YouTube celebrities have corporate sponsors, who pay for product placement in their clips or production of online ads. Some have quit their day jobs or changed careers to accommodate their YouTube filming schedules. A handful are also official "YouTube Partners," meaning the company cuts them a share of ad revenue. [11] [88] [89][90] [46][18]
Fast food chain Carl's Jr. partnered with Google and paid a number of popular YouTube users to advertise their new Portobello Mushroom Six Dollar Burger. They told them to produce videos that 'tell how you eat a burger and mention the product by name'.[91][92][93][94] Sanyo did the same thing to promote a new camera.[95]
