Following is a list of all United States federal judges appointed by President Barack Obama during his presidency.[1]
As of March 19, 2010, nineteen Obama nominees to Article III judgeships have been approved by the United States Senate, namely one Justice to the Supreme Court of the United States, seven judges to the United States Courts of Appeals, and eleven judges to the United States district courts. Obama is currently tied with Thomas Jefferson and Chester A. Arthur for total judicial appointments. 37 further nominations are pending[2][3] for a total of 18 current vacancies at the United States Courts of Appeals, 86 vacancies at the United States district courts[3] and at least 23 additional federal judiciary vacancies that are already anticipated during the 111th Congress.[4] Obama has not made any recess appointments.
Obama also designated sitting judge Emily C. Hewitt of the United States Court of Federal Claims, an Article I court, to be Chief Judge of that court.[5]
