Marian Gaborik, after scoring his fifth goal on 20 December, 2007. Gaborik is currently the only active player to have accomplished the feat.

This is a list of players who have scored five or more goals in a National Hockey League game. Scoring five or more goals in a single game is considered a great feat, and only 43 players in the history of the league have achieved this accomplishment.[1] The most recent player to do so was Marian Gaborik of the Minnesota Wild, who scored five goals on December 20, 2007, in a game against the New York Rangers. This was the first time a player had achieved the feat in 11 years.[2]

Scoring five goals in a single NHL game is an extremely rare feat which has only been accomplished 59 times. One player—Joe Malone—has scored seven goals in a game, seven players have scored six goals in a game, and 39 have scored five goals in a game. Only two players have scored six goals or more after 1967. Joe Malone—ranked second for most career goals of any player in major hockey's first half-century—scored five goals in a game on five separate occasions, of which one was a six-goal game, and another an NHL-record seven-goal game.[3] Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux each attained the feat four times while five other players have also had multiple five-goal game. There have been exactly five instances of five goals being scored in a playoff game.[4] Mario Lemieux is the only player in history to score five goals in five different ways during a game. On December 31, 1988, he scored an even-strength goal, a power-play goal, a short handed goal, a penalty shot goal and an empty net goal.[5]

Scorers

Newsy Lalonde, the first player to score six goals in a NHL game, also had two five-goal games.
Maurice "Rocket" Richard recorded two five-goal games in his career.
Wayne Gretzky, the NHL's all-time leading scorer, had four five-goal games.
Mario Lemieux recorded four five-goal games.
Sergei Fedorov scored all of the Red Wings' goals in a 5-4 overtime win against the Washington Capitals; he eventually joined the latter team in 2008.
