History

Route E1 began on 30 November 1969 as a flat fare route replacing parts of route 211 (between Greenford and Ealing Broadway) and 255 (between Hanwell and Brentford), running between Greenford and Brentford.

Later the Ealing to Brentford section was discontinued and replaced by route E8.

When the E1 was introduced it was operated by single deck AEC Merlins from Hanwell Garage. In 1975 these where replaced by DMS double deckers, and later MCW Metrobuses. In 1990 the double deckers were replaced by Renault / Wright midi buses. When Hanwell Garage closed in 1993, they transferred to the new Greenford base. For a time in the late 1990s it has been stationed at Alperton, using both single and double deckers, before returning to Greenford with Low Floor double deckers. New Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 stock began operation in August 2009
