MS Azura is a cruise ship under construction for P&O Cruises. The ship is being constructed by Fincantieri in Italy; and her keel was officially laid 27 October 2008.[2] Like the preceding P&O ship MS Ventura, the Azura will be a Grand class ship.
Design
Azura is being designed to appeal more to P&Os traditional client base and returning customers, whereas sister ship Ventura is more family orientated, and attracts new, often younger clients. For the first time in the P&O Cruises fleet, Azura will feature eighteen single staterooms. There will be 900 cabins with private balconies and a select number of spa staterooms with exclusive access to the Oasis Spa. Its maiden voyage has been confirmed on April 7, 2010. Wine expert Olly Smith will help to create the Glass House, a venue where passengers will be able to sample various different wines. Atul Kochhar, a three Michelin stars chef will be enlisted to create Sindhu, an Indian fine dining restaurant on board. The ship will feature a dance floor in the atrium, a New York styled show lounge and modern interpretation on a London pub.[3] For the first time in the P&O Cruises fleet, Azura will feature an open air cinema screen similar to those found on Princess Cruises ships such as MS Caribbean Princess. The screen, known as the SeaScreen will be situated in front of the funnel on Azura.[4]
Godmother
Azura's Godmother, will be Darcey Bussell, a former Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet. Bussell will perform the traditional bottle breaking ceremony to christen the ship, and is also producing a performance by the Royal Ballet and Royal Ballet School, to be staged at the launch party.
