Mahesh Manjrekar (born 13 May 1953 in Mumbai) is an Indian director, actor, writer and producer. He is credited with directing the critically acclaimed films Vaastav: The Reality (1999), Astitva (2000) and Viruddh... Family Comes First (2005). He has won a National Film Award and two Star Screen Awards. Besides direction, he has acted in several films including some of his own productions. He first gained acclaim as an actor for his performance in the 2002 film Kaante, and later played negative roles in the Telugu film Okkadunnadu (2007) and as the gangster Javed in the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). He played the role of 'Shivaji Maharaj' in Marathi movie Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy.

Mahesh Manjrekar was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Manjrekar started his acting career in 1984 with the Marathi play Aflatoon, which paved way for him as an award winning producer with more plays like Dhyanimani, Doctor Tumhisuddha, Gidhade, Akashmaat, All the Best and Asecha Amhi Sare.
He embarked on his journey as a film maker with the award winning Marathi film Aai for which he won a Filmfare for the best director and also bagged the Screen Videocon award that year.
Once there, there was no stopping for this man, and he took his vision further with the highly acclaimed Vaastav with Sanjay Dutt. But initial success then gave way to a series of not-so-memorable ventures such as Nidaan, and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rahta Hai, which flopped miserably at the box office. Some of his recent directorial ventures include Viruddh, Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav and It Was Raining That Night.
He also as a Guest Appearance in a marathi movie Uladaal.Besides directing, Manjrekar has also been active as an actor, writer, and producer and even as a playback singer (Kaante). His upcoming film as a director is Pankh. Mahesh Manjrekar stared in the Marathi cinema, Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy / मी शिवाजी राजे भोसले बोलतोय which was a major commercial hit in 2009 and marked a comeback of Marathi cinema.
He is coming with Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho (Marathi) movie as a director in January 2010.
