Makarios is a Greek given name. The old-Greek word makarios (mak-ar'-ee-os) is a prolonged form of the poetical μάκαρ makar (or the same meaning); supremely blest; by extension fortunate, well off: - blessed, happy.

• Russian: Макарий (Makariy; commonly translated as "Macarius"; -ий being a common Russian language rendering of Greek and Latin suffixes -ios/-ius/-ium), Макар (Makar, a simplified, commoners' form).

• Makarios II, archbishop of Cyprus from 1948 to 1950.
