Malan Breton (born June 16, 1973) Is the designer and creative director of Malan Breton Collection. Breton was born in Taipei, Taiwan and currently resides in New York City. He has been designing since the age of 11. Malan Breton is the president and creative director of Malan Breton Collection [1], Breton is a contributing writer for OK! Magazine [2] Malan Breton was a contestant on the third season of the reality television program Project Runway[3] biography. Breton is The host of Bravo Television's The Malan Show [4]. Breton is also the host of the Designer to Designer video and editorial columns for La'g Magazine [5] where he has interviewed designers like John Bartlett[6], Max Azria of BCBG[7], Luca Orlandi of Luca Luca [8], and others.

Malan Breton Collection

In February 2005, Breton was one of twelve new designers to watch for on the New York runway in Women's Wear Dailies cheat sheet[9] . Malan Breton has dressed celebrities from the worlds of television, music, film, and Broadway including; Minnie Driver[10] , Ricki Lake[11] , Martha Plimpton[12] , Nikki Blonsky[13] , Jody Watley[14] . Breton was noted as InStyle Magazines look of the day , for dressing Katrina Bowden [15] Breton's Mens collection has been worn by Nolan Gerard Funk[16][17] Malan Breton Collection expanded in 2008 to include Bijoux Malan Breton , and Malan Breton Accessories[18]. Breton is known for his simple shift dresses made in elegant materials[19] and for his slouchy pajama pants[20]

The Malan Show

Breton was the subject/host of The Malan Show was featured on BravoTV.com as a web series. It followed the process of making it in America as an independent designer[21].

Project Runway

Breton had previously auditioned for both seasons 1 and seasons 2 of Project Runway. He was offered a spot in the cast for season 2, but turned down the offer. In season three, Breton was eliminated in episode two, a challenge in which contestants formed teams of two to create an evening gown for the current Miss USA to wear in the Miss Universe pageant. Breton, the team leader, was paired with fellow contestant Katherine Gerdes. Judges pointed to what they called an unattractive design and problem with the hem and Breton was eliminated. Breton has shown independently during New York Fashion week seven times post elimination [18][22], Three of Breton's showings were part of the Official Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Calendar[23]

Australia's Next Top Model

Breton was recently featured on an episode of Australia's Next Top Model (Cycle 4). The final 3 wore some of his previous collections during the episode[24].

Education and career

Breton began learning fashion design from costume mistresses and has been involved in the entertainment industry from an early age. Malan studied theatre at the Circle in the Square Theatre school in New York City.

Lectures

In 2007 Malan Breton came to Princeton University to give a multifaceted presentation on "Optimizing Your Personal Style"[25] and has been on a panel of industry professionals at the Teen Design Fair 2008 - 2009 at Cooper-Hewitt [26]

Malan Breton acted as a fashion photographer from the years 2000-2004, this work is subject of a new book named Fantôme 2000 - 2004 [27]

Theatre/Film/Television

Malan Breton Began performing at the age of seven[28] Breton began performing as a dancer [29] Malan Breton appeared in Patricia Kaas music video "Quand J'Ai Peur De Tout"[30] filmed by award winning director Joseph Kahn [31] Breton performed in 1998 at the Henry Millers Theatre on Broadway[32] Malan Breton was a student of Circle in the Square Theatre School [33]. Breton became the promo voice of ESPN Extreme Sports and ABC Sports [3] Breton left the entertainment industry in 2003 to Launch Malan Breton Collection [18] Breton later became a cast member of [[Bravo TV's Project Runway[34] Breton and fellow castmates of "[[Project Runway" opened the 2008 BCEFA's Easter Bonnet Competition, at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, in a number called "Project Broadway"[35] Malan Breton will appear in "My Guaranteed Student Loan the Movie" With academy award winner Celeste Holme[36] Breton also makes a cameo appearance in Eleven Minutes ( Regent Pictures), the documentary film starring Jay McCarroll[37] .

Malan Breton Spring 2010 New York fashion week show

Breton presented his spring 2010 fashion show on Sept 14, 2009 [38] presented by Rado Switzerland[39] The ballet themed show featured a forty five piece orchestra The Chelsea Symphony [39] and Ballerinas Audrey Hatch, Brittany Franklin, and Kevin Wiltz[40] The Collection was inspired by an image named "Flight of Freedom taken by Karin Pritzel [41] it features Royal Ballet School Alumnus Leigh Alderson [42]

Breton's spring 2010 fashion show featured his first menswear line Malan Breton Homme (Men)[41]

Malan Breton Singer

  • In 2007 Fashion designer Malan Breton of Project Runway Season 3, performed "Smile" [43] in a concert at New York's Birdland Jazz club, called Broadway at Birdland.[44] "Smile" Also closed Malan Breton Collection Spring 2008 Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week showing.[45] In attendance was Kiera Chaplin the granddaughter of Sir Charles Chaplin.[46]
  • In 2009 fashion designer [47]Malan Breton of Project Runway Season 3 performed the song "Moon River" live at a dedication ceremony to Johnny Mercer's 100th.

Darlings!"[53] Breton covered the 82nd Academy Awards for OK! Magazine in a column called "Malan Breton Takes on Oscar Fashion!"[54]

Charity

Breton has been a supporter of Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS since 1999, he continues to donate his time and efforts to this organization. He is also a large supporter of Broadway in South Africa and is currently Event Chair for their Holiday Party for 2009.[55] In 2010 Malan Breton lent his likeness to an HIV awareness campaign featuring 250 plus celebrities and social figures, the campaign is called BE-THE-LINK [56]
