Malone University is a private, Christian, liberal arts college located in Canton, Ohio. The college was founded in 1892, and is affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church.

Overview

Malone was founded in 1892 as Cleveland Bible College by Walter and Emma Malone. It was renamed Malone College in honor of its founders in 1957 when it moved to Canton, Ohio. Malone has over 13,900 alumni.

When Gary W. Streit became President, he initiated changing Malone College's name to Malone University in October 2008.[1]

Malone University President Gary W. Streit stepped down from his position in February 2010 following allegations that his speeches included unattributed use of passages from Associated Press articles and Wikipedia.[2] Former Malone Provost Wilbert J. Friesen has been named interim acting president.[3]

Academics

Malone serves approximately 2,300 undergraduate and Masters degree students. Some of its leading degree programs include Nursing, Communications, Bible and Theology, Education, and Business Administration. There are a total of 43 majors and 32 minors available at Malone University. The average class size is 22.

The College has 4 graduate programs, including Christian Ministries, Education, Nursing, and Business Administration. It offers masters degrees in each.

Athletics

Malone's athletics teams are known as the Pioneers[4]. They participate in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics(NAIA) and the American Mideast Conference[5]. For football, the school competes in the Mid-States Football Association. Each team competes in the NAIA but also in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

With the addition of Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving for the 2009-10 season, the Malone Pioneers offer a total of 20 NAIA Sports (10 for women, 10 for men). Most recently, Malone has applied to become an NCAA Division II member institution for the 2011-2012 season.
