Margaret Laurino is Alderman of the 39th Ward in Chicago. She was appointed in 1994.

Laurino is a life long resident of Chicago; she attended St. Edward’s Elementary School and Alvernia High School. She went on to Northeastern Illinois University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Master’s Degree in History. She is the daughter of former Alderman Anthony Laurino, and the sister of former state Representative William Laurino.
Before becoming Alderman, Laurino worked with Albany Park Food Pantry, Chicago Area Boy Scouts, Friends of Mayfair Library, and the Sauganash Women's Club. She also worked as her father's aldermanic assistant for fifteen years.
Laurino was appointed Alderman in 1994, to replace her father Anthony, who resigned at the age of 84 because of failing health. She was returned to office by election in 1995, and was re-elected in 1999 and 2003.
As Alderman, Laurino has been focused on using technology to enrich the lives Chicagoans. She is Chairperson of the Economic, Capital and Technology Development Committee where she has worked on a proposal for citywide wireless Internet access. She also created the Aldermanic Technology Task Force, which meets quarterly to discuss technological needs in city government.
In addition to technology advancements, Laurino has proposed several other ordinances: legislation that regulates restrictive covenants on land occupied by grocery and drug stores, and legislation that created mandatory ethics training for all city employees that could be done online.
Laurino’s other accomplishments include: a new police station in her ward, a new health center at Roosevelt High School, and she helped bring $500,000 for improvements into the homes of senior citizens.
Laurino works closely with the Albany Park Community Center, a social service agency which serves over 5,000 people per year providing day care, youth counseling, adult literacy, and senior citizens programming.
