Playing career

Moulson started playing hockey in 1988. He played for the following teams: Erindale Paperweight Auto Techniques & Sixshooters, Erindale Iroquois Tyke A, York Toros Novice AA, North York Canadiens Novice, Minor Atom, Atom, Minor PeeWee, Mississauga Senators PeeWee, Markham Islanders Minor Bantam, Mississauga Reps Bantam, Mississauga Braves Midget AA, Guelph Dominators Mid-Western Junior B (2 years), Cornell University Big Red (4 years), Los Angeles Kings/ Manchester Monarchs (3 years), New York Islanders

He also played lacrosse in the Oakville Hawks and Mississauga Tomahawks minor box lacrosse system, including five years of junior lacrosse for the Tomahawks, and two years of field lacrosse for the Brampton Excelsiors.

Moulson was drafted 263rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Moulson attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School in Mississauga, where he was a part of the school's hockey team. [1] Moulson graduated from Cornell University in 2006, where he was captain of the hockey team and a member of the Quill and Dagger society in his senior year.

He signed with the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent to an entry-level contract on September 1, 2006.[1] He was then assigned to the Kings affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL for the 2006-07 season, scoring 57 points in 77 games. Moulson made his NHL debut in the 2007-08 season on November 2, 2007 against the San Jose Sharks. Matt also scored his first NHL goal in the 5-2 victory.[2]

On July 6, 2009, Moulson signed a one-year contract with the New York Islanders.[3] Moulson made the team out of camp as a linemate of John Tavares and as of December 4, 2009 is second on the team in plus/minus, tied for the team lead in points, and is the Isles' leading goal scorer. He scored his first NHL hat trick - a natural hat trick - on December 3, 2009 against the Atlanta Thrashers.

Moulson is also a very talented lacrosse player, being drafted higher by the NLL than by the NHL. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Rochester Knighthawks.[4]
