Messianic Bible Institute Yeshiva (MBIY - also known as MBI Online Yeshiva - see below) was formed November 1, 1996 by its founder, Dr. David Hargis as an auxiliary of Messianic Bureau International (MBI), a religious "association of churches" organization in Virginia. The school was created to serve the unique need of those who feel especially called to Messianic studies and leadership, but cannot attend on-site classes.

Dr. David Hargis served as founder and president of MBI Yeshiva from 1996 until his death in December, 2006. Messianic Minister Donald Doherty served as the Enrollment Officer from 2001 and still maintains that position. After the death of Dr. Hargis, Dr. Linda Hargis was appointed president by the official Board and also served as Interim President of MBI until October 1, 2008, at which time the MBI Board appointed a new MBI President. The new president decided to move the MBI Headquarters to Michigan, and the MBI Board decided to separate the two, as two individual identities. Thus, the Yeshiva remained in Virginia and December 1, 2008, moved into its new office space in Hampton, Virginia. [1]

MBI Yeshiva is accredited with Transworld Accrediting Commission International [2] of Riverside, California. TAC is not recognized by the Department of Education, but they have applied and have an application on file seeking to qualify for approval.
