Metapramine (Timaxel) is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) which was launched for the treatment of depression in France in 1984. [1] [2] [3] In addition to its efficacy against affective disorders, it also has analgesic effects,[4][5] and may be useful in the treatment of pain.

Metapramine has desipramine-like effects, acting as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor without affecting the reuptake of serotonin.[6][7][5] Uniquely among the TCAs, it lacks anticholinergic properties.[5][5] Metapramine has also been shown to function as a low affinity NMDA receptor antagonist,[5]
