Michael John Rupert (born October 23, 1951, Denver, Colorado ) is an American actor, singer, director and composer.
Rupert made his Broadway debut in 1968 in Kander & Ebb's The Happy Time where he received his first Tony nomination. Additional Broadway credits include Pippin, Shakespeare's Cabaret, Sweet Charity (for which he won the Tony), Mail (also the composer of the music), City of Angels, Falsettos, Ragtime and was seen in Legally Blonde on Broadway, and came to reprise his role as Professor Callahan on the Nation Tour. Off Broadway, he created the role of "Marvin" in both of William Finn's musicals, March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland. He was also seen opposite Betty Buckley, Christian Borle, Carolee Carmello and Keith Bryon Kirk in the Lincoln Center staging of William Finn's Elegies: A Song Cycle.
Rupert's television credits include small roles on My Three Sons, The Waltons, Emergency! and The Partridge Family. He was recently seen in the MTV airing of Legally Blonde.
Rupert is also a composer. He wrote the score to 3 Guys Naked from the Waist Down, Mail and Streets of America (where he also co-wrote the book & lyrics).
He released his debut single, "Racing to the Moon" on August 18, 2008 via Footlight. Rupert lives in New York City with his life partner, Will Chafin.
