A group of friends attend the midnight screening of a 1970s cult horror film at a small theater in a suburban town. These unsuspecting teenagers are unaware that the director and star of the movie made an unexplainable escape from a psychiatric ward five years earlier and may still be on the loose. Both the detective on the case and the killer's empathetic doctor are in attendance along with bikers Harley and his girlfriend Babe[1].
As the movie, The Dark Beneath, begins, the teenagers are shocked to see one of their friends murdered on screen. Unfortunately for everyone, this isn't a prank. The group of moviegoers come to realize that the film's star has escaped into their reality and isn't going to let them leave. With all exits somehow locked and no way of contacting anyone in the outside world, they all must work together to defeat the killer and find a way out of the theater[2].
Caught between reality and fantasy, they are becoming the unwilling stars of the very horror movie they are watching.
