Miguel Arias Cañete (24 February 1950 - ) is a Spanish politician. He is a member of the Partido Popular.

Born in Madrid, he studied at the in the Jesuit college in the Chamartín district of Madrid. Cañete received a Bachelor of Law degree from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and subsequently worked for the State Prosecution Service. He served as a deputy in the Parliament of Andalusia from 1982 until 1986, resigning upon being elected to the European Parliament where he served until 1989. He then served in the Spanish senate from 1993 until 2000 and was Minister of Agriculture and Fishing in the governments of José María Aznar. He served as a deputy for Cadiz in the 2004-2008 Spanish congress before being elected at the 2008 election for Madrid Region which he currently represents.[1]
