Mizuho Fukushima (福島瑞穂 Fukushima Mizuho), born 24 December 1955, is a Japanese politician. She is the current chair of the Social Democratic Party of Japan, a position she has held since 2003.[1] Fukushima is also Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety, Social Affairs, and Gender Equality in Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's cabinet (since 16 September 2009); the SDP is the junior partner in the DPJ-led government coalition.
Fukushima was a regular commentator on the popular weekly Japanese TV-show Koko ga hen da yo, nihonjin, in which prominent Japanese personalities would discuss aspects of Japanese society and culture with foreigners living in Japan.[citation needed]
