Molecular Systems Biology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing research within systems biology at the molecular level, including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbial systems, the integration of cell signaling and regulatory networks, and synthetic biology. Access to this journal is free of charge (open access) and publication is supported in part by an author charge.

The journal has been published by Nature Publishing Group together with the European Molecular Biology Organisation since its launch in March 2005.[1]

The 2008 impact factor was 12.243, ranking it 10th out of 275 journals in the Journal Citation Reports category "Biochemistry & Molecular Biology". The most citing journals were PLoS Computational Biology, BMC Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Current Opinion in Biotechnology and Journal of Proteome Research.[2]
