According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.3 square miles (94.0 km²), of which 35.9 square miles (93.0 km²) is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) (1.10%) is water.
The township contains Salem Cemetery.
As of the census of 2000, there were 245 people, 93 households, and 70 families residing in the township. The population density was 6.8 people per square mile (2.6/km²). There were 101 housing units at an average density of 2.8/sq mi (1.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.78% White, 1.22% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.22% of the population.
There were 93 households out of which 29.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.8% were married couples living together, 2.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.7% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the township the population was spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
