My Kitchen Rules is an Australian competitive cooking game show broadcast on the Seven Network.[1] The series is produced by the team who created the Seven reality show My Restaurant Rules, and was put into production based on the success of Network Ten's MasterChef Australia.[2]
The show sees five teams of two, each representing the states of New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland, competing against each other to "transform an ordinary home into an instant restaurant complete with theme and table decorations for one pressure-cooker night".[3]
In each episode teams serve a three-course meal to be judged by the other teams and celebrity chefs Pete Evans and Manu Feildel. The two highest scoring teams then move to the finals, where they compete in a custom-designed restaurant space. The winners of the series walk away with $100,000 in prize money.[3]
For each episode, each team must submit their menu prior to the day they must serve their three-course meal. On that day, teams must decorate their house into a restaurant for their guests and must shop for all their main ingredients and cannot be prepared in anyway. Also, teams cannot start cooking until three hours before their guests arrived.
For scoring, each team will score other team's three-course meals out of ten. Each judge will score each dish out of ten. Overall, the total score for all the dishes will be out of 100.

After South Australia served their final course to their guests, Pete and Manu revealed to their guests that they all must arrive at a mystery location the next day. There, the judges will reveal their scores for South Australia's courses and the first elimination will happen. The mystery location turned out to be the My Kitchen Rules Headquarters where large, stylish kitchens were revealed inside. At the headquarters, South Australia received their total score of 74, the highest out of all the couples, which resulted in the Western Australian team being eliminated from the competition. Afterwards, five new teams were included into the competition, again one from each state.
