Jasmeet a.k.a. "Jazz" (Katrina Kaif) is an Indian but believes herself to be British since she was born in Britain and has been living in Britain ever since she was born. The fact that she doesn't like Indian culture is unacceptable to her parents, especially her father, Manmohan Malhotra ({Rishi Kapoor]). She wants to marry an unfaithful Englishman, Charles,(Clive Standen) but her parents, especially Manmohan Malhotra (Rishi Kapoor) for he wants his daughter to marry an Indian boy. They try to make her interested in India, and the people itself by taking her to their homeland Punjab, India, but she still isn't interested and is not willing to forget Charles. Jasmeet's parents arrange her marriage with their friend's son, Arjun (Akshay Kumar), and they get married in India. After returning from India, Jasmeet tells Arjun and her family that she does not consider this as a marriage, because in Britain this is not a marriage, and that agreeing to this wedding was just a drama. However Jasmeet's parents and Arjun try to convince her but she doesn't listen, so they agree to marry Jasmeet and Charles, and they get engaged. When Jasmeet and Arjun spend time together, as friends, Jasmeet falls in love with Arjun, but doesn't realize it.

And with the movie Imran (Upen Patel), plays Jasmeet's friend who is Pakistani but is born in Britain who is exactly like Jasmeet. He also loves a Christian,Suzanne, which also upsets his parents, but they eventually agree because Suzanne is trustworthy. When Imran and Suzanne tell Suzanne's parents that they want to get married, they lay a condition that, Imran must change his name and religion to become a Christian. At first, he agrees, but then he realizes that he can't do it so, he tells them he won't do it. Suzanne however leaves her parents to be with Imran for she really loves him for who he is.

Arjun is Jasmeet's best man at her Christian wedding to Charles. As Arjun starts to leave, he stops and turns back. He walks to Jasmeet and Charles and shocks everyone. Arjun can actually speak English for he tells Charles to keep Jazz happy. Then, Arjun sadly leaves and the wedding starts. As they are taking the oath, Charles says "I do" whereas Jasmeet surprises everyone and says "No". She runs from the wedding to Arjun as she finally realizes that Arjun is the one she loves. The movie ends with Jasmeet and Arjun going back to Punjab and living a happy life together.

The reviews of the film were generally positive. Taran Adarsh of wrote, "Namastey London is addictive stuff. You watch it once, you wanna watch it again."[2]

Akshay Kumar has received almost unanimous praise for his portrayal of Arjun Singh, with a critic saying "Kumar certainly leaves his mark throughout the flick. One of the coolest performances of the star."[3] Adarsh said "One of his finest performances so far, Namastey London also marks the coming of age of an actor who was often dubbed as an action hero or a funster. Akshay not only wins the heart of Katrina on screen, he’s sure to win the hearts of millions of moviegoers with a terrific portrayal in this film." On Katrina Kaif's performance he wrote, "she handles the complex part with remarkable ease. The pretty lass is only getting better with every film." Despite the generally favourable reviews, some critics panned the film, with a verdict of 2 out of 5 stars.[4]

Box office

Namastey London opened to a good response and mainly picked up momentum after the second and third day of its release, a major reason being India's exit out of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The film did extremely well in the northern parts of India especially in Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.[5] It also did well in Mumbai and in the first week of its release collected Rs. 7,35,75,657.[6] The film was received very well in other parts of the country. The success of the film ended a long spell of box office failures since the release of Guru in January 2007. The film went on to become a huge hit & grossed Rs. 48,37,00,000 making it one of the top hits of 2007.

The film was a huge hit overseas. It debuted at number 9 on the UK charts and similarly debuted within the top 20 in the United States and Australian charts. The film collected £ 238,841 in the first week of its release[7] As of 27 July 2007 the movie has grossed an estimated $15,273,747 USD in five territories which included the United States ($4,149,772), Australia ($197,148), India ($17,267,662), Malaysia ($15,285), and the United Kingdom ($9,021,900).

The soundtrack was released on 27 January 2007 and received, so far, good reviews.[8] This the first time Himesh Reshammiya and Javed Akhtar collaborated together.
