The National Directorate of Security (NDS, (Persian) ریاست امنیت ملی, also referred to as Amniyat or Amaniyat) is the domestic intelligence agency of the government of Afghanistan. The Director of National Security reports directly to the President.
The NDS has received significant attention in the Western press due to allegations of human rights abuses committed against detainees captured by NATO forces and given into NDS custody.
The NDS is closely related to the Soviet-era KHAD, and retains some of its characteristics. [1]
