From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

National Smile Month (formerly National Smile Week) is a dental health event held in the United Kingdom, traditionally held in May, but now across May and June each year. It is the biggest not for profit dental health event in Europe and attracts thousands of event co-ordinators and reaches millions of people with oral health information.

National Smile Month is run by the British Dental Health Foundation, which is a charity based in the United Kingdom. The event was originally launched in 1976 as a week long campaign in the West Midlands. It has increased in stature every year and became a month long event in 2006. A key factor in taking simple, practical advice to millions of people nationwide, National Smile Month is also a platform for local promotions by hospitals, dental practices, education establishments, retail outlets, schools and others who have an interest in dental health.

Events that are run for National Smile Month range from open days and exhibitions to tasting sessions and street theatre. National Smile Month has a different theme each year and produces and distributes a free guide to help event co-ordinators plan events and sells a range of promotional items designed for the campaign. Further activities include a National Dental Survey, official campaign Launch, DVD, website and competitions.
